If you’ve been on Roxas Boulevard lately, you will note that the road has been under repair for quite some time now, with the rehabilitation taking up one lane of the road. This has led to quite a bit of congestion due to the fact that the road is also used by private vehicles and trucks.
The MMDA is considering temporarily banning trucks from passing Roxas Boulevard this November in order to reduce traffic congestion on the popular road. The road works are happening specifically on the patch that is directly in front of the US Embassy.
As for the particulars of the ban, the MMDA is eyeing trucks and trailers with a gross vehicle capacity weight of over 4,500 kilograms. Vehicles below that weight class will be allowed to continue on Roxas Boulevard, which include light duty commercial vehicles, and all passenger vehicles.
For alternate routes, trucks can take several in order to bypass the temporary truck ban on Roxas Boulevard.
From SLEX to the Port Area: From South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) straight to Osmeña Highway to President Quirino Avenue, turn left to Plaza Dilao towards President Quirino Extension, take a left at U.N. Avenue, turn right to Romualdez, turn left to Ayala Avenue/Padre Burgos Avenue, then finally turn right to Bonifacio Drive.
From the Port Area to SLEX: Take Bonifacio Drive, turn left to Padre Burgos/Ayala Boulevard, turn right to San Marcelino, turn left to President Quirino Avenue, then turn right to President Osmeña highway before entering SLEX.
The diversion will cause a lot more traffic on Osmeña highway, which can affect the travel times of truck drivers who are used to going through Roxas Boulevard. The MMDA hasn’t announced when the temporary truck ban will end, however.
