Mercedes-Benz has opened a new fast-charging park for electric trucks at its Wörth plant in Germany. The new facility features six fast-charging stations located near Gate 2, the main entrance for delivery trucks. The charging park supports the company’s goal to electrify all delivery traffic to the Wörth plant by 2026.
Currently, 20% of deliveries to the plant are already done using electric trucks. With the new charging park and plans to expand further, Mercedes-Benz Trucks aims to make it easier for truck drivers and haulage companies to charge their vehicles while they wait or unload materials.
The charging park includes six high-performance 400 kW stations and space for two more charging points in the future. To support the charging park, a new transformer station with 6 megawatts of power output was built. This transformer connects to the plant’s electrical system through a 20,000-volt high-voltage line.
Andreas Bachhofer, Head of the Wörth site, explained that the charging stations are placed near areas where deliveries happen, allowing trucks to recharge while loading or unloading. Mayor Steffen Weiß of Wörth am Rhein noted that this change from diesel refueling to electric charging marks a positive change toward cleaner transportation. Mercedes-Benz Trucks also runs another charging park for customers at the Branch Information Center (BIC) in Wörth am Rhein. The facility allows truck buyers to test different charging systems and work with experts to find the best solutions for their needs.
The new fast-charging park at the Wörth plant is part of Mercedes-Benz’s broader TruckCharge program, which concentrates on creating the infrastructure needed to support electric trucks. With the addition of charging technology to practical services, the company wants to make electric truck operations more convenient and efficient.
