Freightliner, part of Daimler Truck North America (DTNA), has launched the fifth generation of its Cascadia truck, a popular choice for heavy-duty trucks in North America. The Cascadia has been a top-selling Class 8 truck for nearly 20 years, with over one million units sold. Production of the new model will begin in mid-2025 in U.S. and Mexico plants.
John O'Leary, President and CEO of Daimler Truck North America, shared that the new Cascadia was developed based on feedback from drivers, dealers, and fleet owners. The goal is to improve safety, lower fuel costs, and help truck operators run their businesses more smoothly.
The new Cascadia comes with improved cameras and radar sensors that power systems such as Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA6), Active Lane Assist 2 (ALA2), and Side Guard Assist 2 (SGA2), which are made to help prevent accidents and keep drivers more alert. The truck also introduces an Intelligent Braking Control System (IBCS), which provides smoother braking and helps extend the life of the truck's brakes. The new electronic park brake system prevents the truck from rolling away accidentally when parked.
The truck’s Dual Stage Intelligent LED Headlights are stronger and more reliable, clearing ice and condensation quickly. These headlights automatically adjust for better visibility. The Cascadia also features Freightliner’s MirrorCam system, replacing traditional mirrors with cameras to give drivers a clearer view, especially in bad weather or at night. Freightliner has worked on making the Cascadia even more fuel-efficient.
The new model offers a 1.9% improvement in fuel economy, thanks to updates in the truck’s design, like a new hood, improved air deflectors, and better covers for the wheel wells. New features like Remote Lock and Unlock, Geofencing Services, and Detroit Connect Video Capture 2.0, which records safety events, give fleet managers more control and insight into their trucks.
With better safety features, improved fuel savings, and smarter tools for businesses, the fifth-generation Freightliner Cascadia is likely to stay a top choice for heavy-duty trucks in North America when production begins in mid-2025.
