Driving's reaching another advancement, and Isuzu's behind the wheel—well, sort of. With Applied Intuition, they’re planning to develop trucks that drive themselves by 2028. Isuzu Motors Limited has kicked off a partnership with Applied Intuition to develop trucks that can drive themselves, planning for a release in 2028 in Japan and North America. The collaboration is a huge part of Isuzu's recent Isuzu Transformation—Growth to 2030 (IX), which focuses on pioneering autonomous driving technologies.

The collaboration, set to last five years, is made to speed up the development and eventual commercial release of autonomous trucks. Shinsuke Minami, President of Isuzu, mentioned the importance of this partnership in advancing their autonomous driving technology and providing a good basis for entering the autonomous driving business by 2028. He believes that the advanced technologies from Applied Intuition will benefit the company, especially in reaching its goals.

“The partnership with Applied Intuition will exponentially advance autonomous driving technology development and provide a solid and reliable foundation as we enter the Level 4 autonomous driving business in FY2028. I believe that Applied Intuition’s advanced technologies will serve as a strong driving force in realizing our Isuzu Transformation (IX) goals. Isuzu is committed to developing new businesses with new technology, and to tackle the various challenges faced by customers and society as a whole."

Applied Intuition will assist Isuzu in refining the technology for these self-driving trucks. The plan includes starting different tests on Japanese highways by 2026 to prepare for commercial deployment two years later. The collaboration also addresses immediate challenges, such as Japan's growing shortage of truck drivers, which has been aggravated by recent labor laws capping work hours. Isuzu and Applied Intuition are looking to improve logistical efficiency and address workforce shortages in the sector.

Isuzu and Applied Intuition are on a mission to revolutionize how goods are moved—sustainably and smartly. If you’re scouting for commercial vehicles that are better for the planet, take a tour at TruckDeal.com.ph and pick the perfect one with a simple click!
