Daimler Truck starts production of the eActros 600 electric truck for long-distance transport.

The future of long-distance hauling is here with the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600. Daimler Truck has officially started producing the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 at its Wörth plant in Germany. The electric truck is made for long-distance hauling, giving a range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge.

Long-haul transport accounts for a large portion of CO2 emissions in Europe, and the eActros 600 wants to manage this with its battery-electric system. In the Philippines, where trucks frequently transport goods across provinces, electric vehicles like the eActros 600 could offer a new way to lower operating expenses.  Businesses managing fleets for deliveries between Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao might find this technology useful in adapting to rising fuel prices and stricter environmental regulations.

The Wörth plant is using its existing assembly lines to build the eActros 600 alongside diesel trucks, which allows flexible production and smooth integration of electric trucks into their operations. Other Daimler Truck facilities in Mannheim, Kassel, and Gaggenau supply components such as the electric axle and high-voltage systems.

To support the production of electric trucks, Daimler Truck invested heavily in training its workers. In 2023 alone, the Wörth plant held over 3,300 training sessions focused on electric powertrains and high-voltage systems. Since 2022, the Wörth site has been CO2-neutral in its production by using renewable energy from sources like wind, solar, and hydropower. The plant is also exploring geothermal energy to cut emissions even further, showing a strong commitment to clean manufacturing.

The eActros 600 offers a way to modernize logistics by reducing emissions and cutting down fuel costs. Switching to electric trucks in the country would require better-charging infrastructure, but the benefits such as lower costs and reduced environmental impact, make them worth considering. A better logistics system in the Philippines could benefit greatly from electric trucks like the eActros 600.
