The Canter is a no-frills and straightforward workhorse. Since it entered the Philippine market back in the 1980s, it has established itself as one of the go-to trucks for business owners and individual operators. Being a commercial vehicle, the Canter is built to be tough, simple, practical, and economical. Comfort takes a back seat with these kinds of vehicles but with this new model, Fuso intends to change that.
Introducing the 2023 Canter FE71 by Sojitz Fuso Philippines Corporation. This latest model showcases an array of enhancements, including a brand-new engine and advanced safety features. Best of all, the light-duty truck now offers the brand’s Duonic automated manual transmission (AMT), marking a significant milestone. This addition ensures a heightened level of convenience and comfort for both light-duty truck drivers and business owners, making this new model a much more tempting choice in its class.
Aside from the new powertrain, the all-new Canter FE71 sports Fuso’s V-line concept, featuring an angular headlight shape and a horizontal character line on its exterior. This design choice gives the truck additional depth to its appearance, so while it isn’t going to win any beauty contests any time soon, the FE71 is still a handsome beast to look at. Integrated into the chassis of the FE71 is Fuso's RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) technology, which Fuso says guarantees a stronger and safer cabin. The cab of the all-new Canter FE71 also offers a wide tilt angle, providing unrestricted access to the engine bay, and facilitating hassle-free upkeep.
Stepping inside, the interior boasts a fresh meter cluster featuring a multi-information display that provides essential data like fuel consumption and trip information. To enhance the driving experience, the all-new Canter FE71 features a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel along with a dash-mounted gear lever, allowing for a more comfortable and ergonomic driving position.
The all-new FE71 model incorporates Fuso's Canter FE73's 3.0-liter engine, an upgrade over the 4M42-3AT2 found in the older model. This inline-four direct injection diesel engine, known as the 4P10-KAT2, provides an extra bump in power while also staying within the stringent EURO 5 emissions standards. Regarding fuel efficiency, Fuso states that the FE71, equipped with the AMT, has demonstrated an impressive consumption rating of 11.6 kilometers per liter during an AAP-sanctioned test conducted in June 2023.
When it comes to safety features, the all-new Canter FE71 excels. The light-duty truck is equipped with front and rear disc brakes with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD). The all-new FE71 comes with variants to choose from. Among them are the 10 and 11-foot light-duty trucks equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, as well as the latest additions: the 10 and 11-foot FE71 models, equipped with a Duonic six-speed automated manual transmission.
The all-new FE71 Canter starts at P1,670,000 for the FE71 10ft. five-speed manual, P1,690,000 million for the FE71 11ft. five-speed manual, P1,745,000 for the FE71 10ft. AMT, and finally, P1,765,000 for the FE71 11ft. AMT.
