In a recent test conducted by Fuso along with media partners, Auto Industriya, and testing partners the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) the Canter Express Modern PUV (Class 3) was able to achieve a remarkable figure of 8.8 km/L, which is more than the traditional PUV/PUJ (Public Utility Vehicle/Public Utility Jeep) average of about 5 to 7 kilometers per liter.
The model that was tested, whose name listed includes the specific variant, is the 2022 Fuso Canter Modern PUV 3.0L M/T. During the test, the team set the tire pressure to 76 psi, for both the front and rear tires. The test conditions involved a drive on the highway, and the economy run started at Shell Bacolor in Pampanga. The testing team’s challenge had a target speed range of between 60 km/h to 80 km/h or within the minimum and maximum speed of the expressway, NLEX.
The challenge involved a drive from San Fernando, Pampanga to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan. All of this was done in a single day, and it was observed by Auto Industriya, and certified by the AAP.
According to the results, the drive lasted for 152.7 kilometers, wherein the Canter Express was able to get 8.8 km/L during its run. This figure is better than the PUJ average reported by Fuso in its press release, at 5.2 km/L. There were also other conditions that were simulated during the Canter Express’ run, namely passenger load and other road conditions. Based on the survey for PUV drivers, the average ranges from 6 to 7 km/L.
On top of that, Fuso Philippines also stated that (based on current fuel prices) the figure will be able to save drivers about P6.3 per kilometer compared to the traditional PUJ based on the average consumption of 5.2 km/L. Based on that figure, and based on the test length that was conducted, the new model will be able to save drivers a total of P962.01 over a 152.7-kilometer run, based on the testing.
