Sojitz Fuso Philippines Corporation (SFP) has a new President and CEO, and his name is Yosuke Nishi of Japan. Nishi is replacing Yoshihisa Hosaka, who ended his term on March 31, 2022. The outgoing president saw Fuso Philippines’ growth accelerate by 11 percent during the fiscal year 2021, amid the continued threat of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic slowdowns.
Hosaka has been reassigned to the Sojitz Corporation Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, and will be fulfilling a new role for African markets in addition to Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia.
As Hosaka’s successor, Nishi began his term as President and CEO on April 1, 2022. Nishi has been an executive in the local automotive industry since 2012. Before his latest appointment, Nishi served as the President and CEO of Sojitz G Auto Philippines, the authorized importer and distributor of Geely passenger vehicles in the country.
Now Nishi aims to grow the Fuso commercial vehicle business further as it tries to navigate a post-pandemic business landscape, all while transitioning to a more sustainable future. Fuso Philippines has yet to release an electric vehicle in our market, but over in Japan, the eCanter light-duty electric truck is already making rounds and impressing customers. It’s likely going to be a while before we see any sort of electrification from Fuso Philippines, as the company’s focus currently lies in other key areas. For now, Fuso’s focus appears to be growing its market share and continuing to provide excellent after-sales service to its customers all over the Philippines.
