HD Hyundai Infracore’s HX12 hydrogen engine received the Best Pick award at H2 MEET 2024, Korea’s largest hydrogen tech event, held from September 25 to 27 at KINTEX near Seoul. Hosted by the Korea Automobile Journalists Association (KAJA), the event brought together about 41,000 visitors from 24 countries, all interested in the latest hydrogen technology.
Last September, Hyundai Motor Group used this event to share its full lineup of hydrogen solutions and future plans. With the theme “Be a First Mover in Hydrogen,” Hyundai presented its entire approach to hydrogen, covering production, storage, and uses in vehicles and industry under the HTWO brand. This was the first time all Hyundai Group affiliates, like Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Steel, and Hyundai Engineering, joined together to show their shared goals, building on their initial plans shared at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year.
Hyundai’s HX12 hydrogen engine, built for 11-liter vehicles, won the Best Pick award for its high power, strong torque, and ability to work with regular engines, making it easy to retrofit older trucks. Hyundai plans to start mass production of hydrogen truck engines by the second half of 2025, showing its seriousness in making hydrogen an option for more drivers.
Two other companies were also recognized at the H2 MEET. Kolon Industries received the Excellent Pick award for its moisture control device, which helps manage moisture in hydrogen fuel cell systems to make them more efficient. Kolon also displayed other materials needed for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Approtium, a startup, earned the Excellent Pick award for its ammonia-cracking equipment that can produce hydrogen by breaking down liquefied ammonia. Approtium works with Denmark’s Topsoe to expand hydrogen availability using this method.
With over 300 companies and organizations joining H2 MEET, Hyundai’s award for the HX12 and its full hydrogen lineup shows the company’s ways of making hydrogen a big part of future vehicle technology worldwide.
