Ford UK is keeping its competitive edge in the commercial vehicle scene through its FordLiive vehicle uptime system. Introduced back in 2021, the FordLiive system aimed to increase the productivity of commercial vehicles for operators by maximizing vehicle uptime. In addition, the system promises to revolutionize the way owners operate and maintain their vehicles by minimizing breakdowns, streamlining dealer visits, and accelerating service and repair times.
In 2023, Ford has amassed data from a number of vehicles that it uses not only to improve its services but also to entice potential customers into subscribing to the service. In its UK headquarters based in Dunton, London, Ford presented real-time data from 114,000 vans in Britain covered by the FordLiive monthly subscription service. Showcasing data from engines to oil filters or brake pads.
FORDLiive utilizes real-time vehicle data to provide customers with tailored maintenance information. Small businesses with up to five vehicles can receive notifications through the FordPass Pro app, while larger fleet managers can access a dedicated version of Ford Telematics that includes a vehicle health dashboard.
These notifications not only assist operators in planning maintenance and scheduling service appointments, but also enable them to monitor and manage oil life, AdBlue or diesel exhaust fluid levels, and tire pressures to prevent unscheduled downtime. Additionally, Smart Maintenance provides operators with straightforward explanations of warning lights and messages, as well as their potential impact on vehicle performance and recommended maintenance. Operators will also receive recall notifications for their vehicles.
Since 2019, the U.S. automaker has equipped all of its commercial vehicles with modems that monitor 4,000 data points. By addressing these issues proactively, customers can save on costly repairs that could arise if left unattended.
Following a successful pilot program in the UK, Ford is expanding its FORDLiive service to the United States and mainland Europe. With a greater emphasis on its lucrative Ford Pro business in Europe, the automaker is shifting its attention away from lower-margin mass-market passenger vehicles.
Ford currently doesn’t sell commercial vehicles here in the Philippines so needless to say, they also don’t offer the FordLiive system here. However, systems like these could be a major help for business owners here in the Philippines. Being able to track the condition of a vehicle in real time will save commercial vehicle owners money from vehicle downtime and potentially catastrophic vehicle damage from irregular maintenance.
