MAN Truck & Bus wins the Truck Innovation Award 2025 for its hydrogen-powered hTGX truck.

It’s official: MAN’s hydrogen-powered hTGX has taken home the 2025 Truck Innovation Award! MAN Truck & Bus has been awarded the Truck Innovation Award 2025 for its new hydrogen-powered truck, the MAN hTGX. The award was presented at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show, recognizing MAN's efforts to create cleaner solutions for heavy-duty transportation.

MAN is the first European truck maker to launch a small series of hydrogen combustion trucks, expected to be available in 2025. The hTGX is built to offer a zero-emission alternative for industries needing heavy-duty transport. According to Dr. Frederik Zohm, MAN’s head of Research & Development, this hydrogen truck will be especially helpful in reducing emissions for industries and regions where charging stations for electric trucks are not widely available or where hydrogen infrastructure is already in place.

"We are particularly pleased to receive the IToY jury's award. With the hydrogen combustion truck MAN hTGX, we are offering a useful addition to our battery-electric vehicles, thus rounding off our zero-emission product portfolio for special markets and heavy-duty applications. By being classified as a ‘zero-emission vehicle’, the hTGX makes an important contribution to the decarbonisation of road freight transport."

The MAN hTGX runs on a 16.8-liter six-cylinder hydrogen engine (H4576), based on MAN’s existing D38 diesel engine. It offers the same performance as diesel trucks, but with hydrogen as the fuel source. The truck can cover up to 600 kilometers on a full tank of hydrogen, which is stored in a 700-bar tank that holds 56 kilograms of hydrogen. The simplified exhaust system also makes it more efficient for long trips.

Production of the small series, with around 200 units, is set for 2025. These trucks will be available in countries like Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Iceland, as well as other selected markets. The hydrogen-powered hTGX is especially useful for transporting heavy goods, like in construction or timber, and is an option for places where hydrogen refueling is easier to access than electric charging stations.

This win celebrates the third time MAN has received the Truck Innovation Award. The company was recognized in 2024 for its work on autonomous driving projects and in 2019 for its automated construction site truck.
