Hyundai introduces hydrogen-powered XCIENT trucks to reduce emissions in manufacturing logistics.

Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) has added 21 XCIENT hydrogen fuel-cell trucks to its logistics operations. These trucks will carry vehicle parts from suppliers to the HMGMA Megasite, starting with trips to the on-site Consolidation Center and later expanding to a larger network of suppliers. Over one-third of the Glovis America truck fleet at the site will now consist of these hydrogen-powered vehicles.

HMGMA CEO Oscar Kwon explained that using hydrogen trucks is part of the company’s steps to adopt cleaner logistics solutions. The XCIENT trucks, which emit no harmful gases, are an alternative to traditional freight trucks often used in manufacturing.

The initiative ties into Hyundai’s HTWO project, a business brand made for the hydrogen value chain. HTWO concentrates on hydrogen production, storage, transport, and usage, and plans to bring hydrogen-powered solutions to various industries. At CES earlier this year, Hyundai mentioned how HTWO supports a cleaner future, including closed-loop logistics systems.

Jim Park, Hyundai Motor North America’s SVP for commercial vehicle and hydrogen development, noted that deploying the XCIENT trucks reflects Hyundai’s push to improve sustainability in its operations. The trucks are part of a larger plan to integrate hydrogen technology into logistics, offering a reliable and eco-friendly transport system.

“HMGMA’s deployment of XCIENT for logistics and operations is one of the main initiatives of HTWO. This is delivering on our strategy and vision to showcase a closed-loop hydrogen logistics ecosystem and improve the environmental sustainability of manufacturing operations.”

To support the trucks, Hyundai and Glovis America will set up a mobile hydrogen refueling station at the Megasite. A permanent hydrogen production and refueling facility is also in the works, with more details expected to follow. With hydrogen-powered trucks now in use at the HMGMA Megasite, Hyundai is working toward cleaner and greener logistics. Do you want to check out Hyundai’s trucks?
