Isuzu is taking calls for cleaner rides once again as Isuzu Commercial Truck of America has kicked off the production of its innovative electric chassis, the NRR-EV, at its Charlotte, Michigan facility. The NRR-EV is now open for orders, with initial deliveries expected to begin in September 2024.
The NRR-EV chassis is made to fit different types of commercial needs, offering wheelbases of 3365.5, 3810, and 4470.4 mm. These accommodate body lengths from 10 to 20 feet. Depending on the required range, customers can choose from four battery pack sizes: 60, 100, 140, or 180 kWh. The electric chassis delivers a maximum power of 150 kW and a torque output of 381 Nm, operating at a voltage of 350 volts.
Isuzu's NRR-EV can be fully charged in less than two hours thanks to its compatible AC (Level 2) and DC fast charging systems. It includes regenerative braking that recycles energy back into the batteries and an ECO Mode that reduces acceleration to save battery life. Additionally, the electric power take-off (ePTO) feature allows for running auxiliary equipment, offering 7 kWh of continuous power and a peak of 26 kWh.
The NRR-EV is equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that includes Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Full-Range Adaptive Cruise Control, among others. A Pedestrian Alert System makes low-speed operations safer by notifying nearby pedestrians through sounds, which is especially important given the vehicle’s quiet nature.
The electric chassis features a newly designed front bumper that improves cooling performance and a high-strength frame made of HT540 hot-rolled steel, ensuring greater rigidity and strength. With its quieter, more aerodynamic cab, the NRR-EV is so far Isuzu's most efficient design yet, capable of adapting to various body sizes for different commercial uses.
