Maersk is one of the biggest players in the shipping and logistics industry, and it’s no shock that the company goes big when it comes to its fleet orders. However, that isn’t to say that Volvo isn’t shocked, however, because now they have to produce 110 Volvo VNR Electric trucks for the logistics giant to be completed by the first quarter of next year.
With such a huge order, the Swedish marque is definitely happy with the turnout of its newest electric lineup. In fact, Volvo Trucks and Busses is making big waves in Europe, owning a nearly fifty-percent market share for electric trucks on the continent.
The order was penned in by Maersk adding 110 units on top of a previous order of 16 trucks of the same model from the Swedish truck brand. This momentous order marks the largest-ever order of trucks from a single brand for Volvo Trucks and Busses.
All of the orders will be filled out at Volvo Trucks’ New River Valley plant in Virginia, U.S.A. Maersk is expected to take deliveries of its units by this year, while the total order will be completed by the first quarter of 2023.
Volvo Trucks is excited to continue collaborating with Maersk on its fleet sustainability goals and to play a key role in the organization’s continued scaled investments in electromobility solutions.
There was no comment, however, on the cost of the trucks. The fully-electric fleet will see action in California in the United States since the state offers a bunch of incentives for all-electric trucks.
Maersk is also rapidly electrifying its fleet of vehicles, and earlier this year the logistics giant committed an order of 300 electric trucks from Einride, yet another brand that caters to the electric commercial vehicle market.
