Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) has revealed the test units for the next-generation eCanter all-electric light-duty truck. The unveiling happened at Fuso's Kitsuregawa Proving Ground in Tochigi, Japan.
The all-new commercial electric vehicle (EV) follows the first-generation model launched in 2017. An improved eCanter with advanced safety features became available for the Japanese market in 2020. Now the Japanese truck and bus maker has set its sights on the development and testing of the next-gen eCanter.
Fuso says the all-new eCanter will have more range, more safety features, and an expanded lineup with more variants to meet diverse transportation needs. The company is currently testing the light-duty electric truck in extreme conditions, including severe hot and cold conditions. The eCanter will reportedly drive over a million kilometers before its launch.
Fuso Philippines has not yet brought the eCanter to our market, but the truck has so far found homes in Japan, Europe, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. Collectively, eCanter models worldwide have surpassed 4.5 million km in mileage through day-to-day operations. These trucks support the logistics needs of companies in the apparel industry, newspaper distribution, furniture sales, healthcare, food, entertainment, and more.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Fuso has vowed to electrify all new models for the Japanese market by 2039. The company has accelerated its investments in electric mobility, moving quickly to introduce high-voltage quick chargers, an EV workshop, and battery test benches at the Kitsuregawa Proving Ground.
We are proceeding with the development of electrified vehicles and further expanding our EV-dedicated infrastructure... Our ultimate goal is to achieve CO2-neutrality in our commercial vehicles. Through this ambition, we hope to contribute to the sustainability of not only our customers’ businesses, but also that of society as a whole.
