During the recent Busworld exhibition, which took place from October 7 to 12, Scania reaffirmed its dedication to electrification by unveiling its newest cutting-edge battery-electric bus platform, along with a comprehensive range of e-mobility solutions.
The initial launch of the new platform features low-entry 4x2 buses, offered in two performance tiers: a four-battery version boasting 416 kWh of installed capacity and a five-battery model with a generous 520 kWh of installed capacity. In ideal conditions, Scania reports that the former achieves a range exceeding 400 km, while the latter surpasses 500 km. The company also states that these batteries are capable of storing up to 520 kWh.
“During the development of our new battery electric bus platform, range, performance, and battery responsibility have been key areas – all crucial to achieving viable and sustainable transport systems. Combined with our latest e-mobility services and solutions, this means we will provide complete and highly competitive solutions for urban applications in all our current regions.”
According to Scania, for stakeholders in the transportation sector, it is imperative to assess the environmental repercussions of emissions and oversee the entire product life cycle. As such, the brand says it remains committed to aligning its operations with the vision of sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on minimizing the impact on both people and the environment across the entire value chain.
The batteries used in these environmentally conscious developments are the result of a collaborative effort between Northvolt and Scania, ensuring top-tier quality and comprehensive responsibility. Featuring one of the most environmentally friendly batteries available for heavy commercial vehicles, these batteries come with enhanced capacity and range. Additionally, the new bus platform introduces advanced safety and digital functionalities.
Aside from sporting a new platform, Scania’s new bus is said to equip a slew of advanced driver assist technologies and Scania’s new Smart Dash instrument panel. All these features are part of Scania’s larger effort to make its buses ready for the future.
