Scania has won the Green Truck distinction for the sixth year in a row thanks to its new Super engine. The award honors truck makers and models that exemplify superior transport efficiency and fuel performance.
For 2022, the Sweden-based company fielded its new Super engine, a 13-liter inline-six available in four power output options for Euro 6 emission standards. This year’s Green Truck test, as it’s always been, was held on public roads in Germany.
Each entrant traverses the same 340-km route with different conditions on different legs. This time, the organizers stipulated 4x2 semi-trailer combinations with 500 hp and a total weight of 32 tons or 32,000 kg.
I am extremely pleased that a Scania is ranked as the most transport-efficient truck for the sixth time in a row. Our Super-based powertrain has brought a completely new performance level to the market, with our customers now benefiting from its 8% fuel savings…Winning Green Truck is a testament to our achievements and a hallmark for the value that Scania offers. These tractors have the same specifications and fuel-saving features that we deliver to our customers, which make them the real winners here.
Scania has turned its focus squarely on sustainable trucking. The company has invested heavily in battery-electric and autonomous technologies, even going so far as to greenlight a test track for its in-development models. Scania says it’s aiming to be a leader in electrified heavy trucks amidst heavy competition from the likes of Tesla, Volvo Trucks, and other companies.
While Scania has yet to put an electric truck on Philippine roads, it does have a presence in the country. Its range of trucks and buses continue to be a top choice among local businesses big and small.
