Scania has been recognized with the Sustainable Bus Award 2025 in the coach category for its Touring LBG/LNG model, a bus that prioritizes sustainability in long-distance transport. This award acknowledges Scania for reducing emissions and supporting a greener future in passenger mobility.
Scania's Touring LBG/LNG model has its dual-fuel capability, operating on both natural gas and biogas, or a combination of the two. The structure makes it easier to switch fully to biogas, a renewable fuel that’s better for the environment. Running on biogas, the Touring LBG/LNG reduces carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to diesel. Powered by a 13-liter gas engine with 410 hp and 2000 Nm of torque, the bus offers over 1,000 kilometers of driving range per tank, making it a good option for long-distance routes.
Biogas offers a renewable, fossil-free fuel that helps reduce CO2 emissions, but it also brings local benefits. Cities and municipalities using biogas can manage waste better, boost local jobs, and secure more energy locally, while also recycling nutrients back to the soil. The process supports a circular economy, showing how Scania’s Touring model can make a real impact. According to Scania’s Head of Product Management, Carl-Johan Lööf, the bus delivers similar power and range to diesel buses, but with less noise and lower costs. Paired with the benefits of biogas, it’s a great fit for longer routes.
The Scania Touring LBG/LNG comes with a newly designed driver’s area, a modern electrical system, high-level safety features, and options for seating, colors, and trim to suit different needs. The Sustainable Bus Award is Europe’s only award to recognize eco-friendly innovations in buses. It looks at emissions and fuel but also considers safety, comfort, and whether the bus parts can be recycled. Scania also reached the finals in the Intercity category with its Castrosua LE BEV model, showing that the brand is working on a range of eco-friendly transport solutions.
