Volvo Trucks has announced the opening of the order system for its heavy-duty electric truck range which includes the Volvo FH, Volvo FM, and Volvo FMX. Production is scheduled to begin later this year and ramp up gradually thereafter. The battery-electric trucks will be produced at Volvo’s CO2-neutral plant in Gothenburg, Sweden.
This is a milestone for Volvo Trucks. There is a lot of interest from customers to place orders for these fantastic trucks. Until now we have mainly offered customers and partners to sign letters of intent to buy, but now we start to sign firm orders, which is a major step forward for electrification.
The company took orders for its new electric truck range last year, when it gathered over 1,100 orders and letters of intent from interested customers in over 20 countries. Volvo has been selling its medium-duty electric truck models for some time, with Norway, Swede, and Germany representing the biggest chunks of the range’s sales figures.
Volvo Trucks says it is the market leader for electric trucks in Europe, as it enjoyed a 42 percent market share in the region in 2021. It’s also among the biggest electric truck manufacturers in North America.
Volvo Trucks currently has six all-electric models in serial production. It boasts the “most complete” electric lineup in the global truck industry, handling duties that include city distribution, regional haulage, refuse handling, and urban construction transports. The company looks to transform half of its sales figures into electric models by the end of the decade.
While Volvo Trucks has yet to field a battery-electric model in the Philippines, its conventional gas-powered trucks continue to be a top choice in the local trucking industry. Its models are known for their European design, high-quality engineering, and supreme reliability.
