Volvo Trucks is looking to continue its streak of success with electric commercial vehicles. The Volvo FH electric broke new ground for the company, and it quickly rose to the top, making it one of the most commanding forces in the European electric truck market today.
Come 2023, however, the brand plans to dominate even more of the market, with the introduction of three new models, all slated for launch next year, 2023. Electric versions of the Volvo FH, Volvo FM, and Volvo FMX are expected to arrive throughout the course of 2023, and the brand will be offering a range of battery sizes, from 180 kWh to 540 kWh.
Volvo will also offer these trucks in a variety of cab and chassis options just like its normal lineup. The three trucks can be outfitted with a variety of enhancements and options to help them fit into whatever role they might find themselves in, which includes but is not limited to construction, waste collection, and of course, cargo hauling.
We can expect each model, either FH, FM, or FMX, to be available throughout the course of next year. Sales for each of these models will start at different dates in 2023, so we can at least expect Volvo to roll out these models one at a time.
Apart from the truck models, Volvo will also be launching several new powertrain options for its models. This month, the Swedish truck manufacturer will be offering a 490 kW powertrain that makes use of three electric motors with up to five or six batteries, totaling 450 or 540 kWh in capacity. Next year, a 330 kW twin-motor powertrain powered by four batteries (330 kWh capacity), will be seeing production starting in May 2023.
