Foton Motor and ZF Group team up for hybrid commercial vehicles in China

During the 2024 Hannover International Commercial Vehicles Show, Foton Motor and ZF Group signed a deal to bring new hybrid drive systems to China's commercial vehicles. The partnership will create more advanced and efficient vehicles that can provide cleaner energy in transportation.

The ceremony was attended by figures including Chang Rui, Chairman of Foton Motor; Lu Zhenghua, EVP of Foton Motor; Peter Laier, Member of the Management Board of ZF Group and Head of ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions; and Yu Sujie, APAC President of ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions. The partnership builds on the prior success of the TraXon commercial vehicle automatic transmission and electric drive project.

Through this deal, the new joint venture, ZF Foton Automatic Transmission (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd., will have the exclusive rights to use this technology in China and will manage the production of these new systems. The ZF TraXon 2 Hybrid system they're introducing is known for being really efficient and keeping the strong performance of traditional engines while being more economical to run, which is great for businesses that rely on large vehicles.

They plan to start mass-producing these systems by 2026, which could make them the first to do so on a large scale in the Chinese market. Peter Laier said this partnership will help speed up the development of their hybrid solutions and bring them to the Chinese market, and potentially worldwide, more quickly and cost-effectively.

"Foton Motor has always adhered to the development direction of green and low-carbon new energy. The hybrid system is one of the important strategies jointly implemented for the development of the global commercial vehicle new energy industry. The signing of this strategic cooperation agreement marks another upgrade of cooperation between the two parties in new energy and globalization."

Teaming up with ZF to bring the TraXon 2 Hybrid system into their lineup, Foton Motor is making sure they stay ahead of the hybrid heavy-duty vehicle market. If you are in the market looking for a sturdy truck, check out Foton’s latest on TruckDeal.com.ph and get a quote directly on the site!
